Jessica Lucas, one of the better things about The CW’s ill-fated “Melrose Place” reboot, will return to the network for its drama pilot “Cult,” from writer Rockne S. O’Bannon (“Farscape”) and “Gossip Girl” executive producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage. She’ll star as a production assistant on a TV show who begins to suspect some of its fans are re-creating crimes from the series. [Deadline]

– A pair of multiple Emmy winners are in talks to star in NBC’s adaptation of the Britcom “Friday Night Dinner.” Allison Janney and Tony Shalhoub would play the parents of two grown children who come home for a Shabbat dinner every Friday. “The Office” and “Parks and Recreation” exec producer Greg Daniels is writing it. Mandy Moore has signed on to star in a family comedy pilot at ABC from writers Rob Fisher and Stacy Traub. She’ll play half of a newlywed couple whose new job brings them closer to her demanding family. [Hollywood Reporter]

Sarah Chalke, who has a guest arc on “Cougar Town” this season, will stay at ABC to star in a comedy called “How to Live With Your Parents for the Rest of Your Life.” It comes from Claudia Lonow (“Accidentally on Purpose”) and is about a recently divorced mom who moves in back in with her eccentric folks. – Comedy veteran Kyle Bornheimer (“Perfect Couples,” “Worst Week”) has landed a new project. He’ll star in ABC’s “White Van Man,” about a guy who reluctantly takes over his dad’s handyman business. His casting lifts a contingency from the project and gives it the official green light. [Deadline]

Chi McBride, late of “Human Target” and “Hawthorne,” has joined the cast of CBS’ drama “Golden Boy.” He’ll play the partner of a young cop who rises suspiciously quickly through the ranks of the NYPD. [Hollywood Reporter]
