On Tuesday, news broke that NBC has commissioned a sitcom pilot based loosely on the life of Jessica Simpson for consideration in its Fall 2013 lineup. Simpson appeared on “The Tonight Show” with Jay Leno that night to discuss her new pregnancy, her plans to marry her baby daddy, and of course… the sitcom.
“Is it about a girl who keeps getting pregnant?” jokes Leno.
“Yes,” Simpson says. “Yes, and how that girl deals with that and everything else.”
The show remains untitled. “We don’t have a name yet, we’re just now in the process of casting everyone, doing the pilot,” she explains.
Obviously, Simpson will be playing herself, “which is pretty easy,” she says. (She previously starred in a sitcom for ABC; she played a newscaster.) She and producers are currently casting actors to play her fiance, former NFL tight end Eric Johnson, and her infamous father/manager, Joe Simpson.
Executive producer Ben Silverman says, “Jessica Simpson is truly a modern-day Lucy with incredible comedic chops. From running a fashion empire to wrangling her public image as a new mom, we see Jessica’s character approach a variety of ‘everyday’ circumstances that will get audiences laughing out loud.”
