jesus christ superstar tour canceled That 'Jesus Christ Superstar' tour with '90s stars has been canceledThe planned arena tour of “Jesus Christ Superstar” starring a fever dream full of ’90s celebrities — including Incubus singer Brandon Boyd, Destiny’s Child member Michelle Williams, *NSYNC singer JC Chasez and the Sex Pistols’ Johnny Rotten — has been canceled.

The revival of the musical, which was supposed to launch in New Orleans on June 9 before embarking on a 54-city national tour, was abruptly canceled on Friday by promoter Michael Cohl, reports the New York Times.

“For me, it was the American dream about to happen,” British actor Ben Forster, who was supposed to play the title role, tells the Times. “What’s that Miley Cyrus song, ‘Wrecking Ball’? I feel like someone just came in and took a big wrecking ball to the ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ tour.”

Cohl tells the Times that he canceled the show because the demand for tickets wasn’t as high as the production had hoped. “It became obvious the shows were in trouble but we tried until the last moment to give it every chance to turn around. In the end it just did not make business sense to continue and we didn’t want the cast to endure playing to disappointing audiences.”

The show was announced in a large press conference, and the cast had already performed on “Good Morning America” to promote the tour.
