Jimmy Buffet was forced to take a hiatus from Margaritaville on Tuesday (Jan. 25), when the iconic artist face planted during a performance down under.
The “Cheeseburger in Paradise” singer was reportedly performing the encore of his final gig (of a four show stint) in Sydney, Australia when he sang, “It’s been a lovely cruise, I’m sorry it’s ended” just before taking a nose dive off the stage.
Audience members tell the Daily Telegraph that it appeared as though Buffet struck his head and lay bleeding on the ground. He was rushed to a local hospital, and security herded fans out of the venue as quickly as possible.
Dan Bateman recounts what he saw from his 10th row seats.
“It looked like he did a massive face plant after his encore and pretty much didn’t get up,” he says. “We were told to leave the premises. No one really wanted to leave because everyone was anxious to know if he survived the fall. Everyone was pretty horrified.”
Reps from the Buffet camp have yet to comment on the rocker’s condition, but we hope that he is able to make a speedy recovery.
