jk rowling harry potter mansion J.K. Rowling selling mansion where 'Harry Potter' novels were written

J.K. Rowling is moving farther and farther away from the world of “Harry Potter.”

Her new book, “The Casual Vacancy,” hit store shelves on Thursday and was a decided departure from the world of Hogwarts and horcruxes. Now it is being reported that Rowling is selling the house where she wrote more than half of the “Potter” novels.

It turns out that Rowling, her husband, Neil, and three children haven’t actually lived in the Scottish property for two years. The 19th century mansion in Abbotsford Park, Edinburgh is now up for sale for 2.25 million (or roughly $3.6 million), The Telegraph reports. Rowling and her family are currently living in an older 2 million mansion near Edinburgh.

This is just a sign that Rowling is moving away from the “Harry Potter” universe both literally and figuratively. Though she said in a recent interview that she left the “door ajar” for more “Potter” novels in the future, the British millionaire says she’s done with the series until there’s an idea that’s good enough to warrant returning to it.

“I don’t want to mechanically go back into that world and pick up a load of odds and ends and glue them together and say, ‘Here we go, we can sell this,'” says Rowling. “It would make a mockery of what those books were to me. But … if I did have a great idea for something else, I probably would do it. I am very averse to the prequel-sequel idea. A sidestep could maybe … well, we’ll see.”
