Now that “Community” is heading back to NBC Thursday nights on January 2, it’s time for the promotional appearances to begin. Joel McHale stopped by “Good Day LA” to talk about the show Tuesday, and it sounds like things are looking up for Greendale Community College.
“We’re in the middle of shooting now,” McHale says of the show, which is returning for 13 more episodes. Joel sums up most of the news fans already know, that Dan Harmon is back as showrunner, and Jonathan Banks and John Oliver are both appearing in multiple episodes. While Banks is new to the series, Oliver was a recurring character in the first two seasons of “Community.”
“These scripts are some of the best we have ever done,” he says. One piece of news he avoided talking about was the departure of cast member Donald Glover, who will leave the show partway through the season.

You may have seen him as a pro-shark protester in "Sharknado 3." His eventual memoir will be called "You're Wrong, Here's Why..." TV words to live by: "I'm a firm believer that sometimes it's right to do the wrong thing."
