charlie sheen jon cryer getty Jon Cryer opens up about Charlie Sheen: 'I love him, he's a great friend'Please take note: even if you call him a “troll,” Jon Cryer is not the kind of friend who would ever show you anything but support.

The “Two and a Half Men” star appeared on the June 8 telecast of “The Late Show With David Letterman” and seemed downright sweet when discussing the whole Charlie Sheen debacle.

“We want nothing but the best for him,” Cryer says. “I want him to get healthy, I want him to stay sober, I want him to be reunited with his family…. That would be the best thing. I love him. He’s a great friend.”

He didn’t acknowledge the hilarity of the situation though. Cryer and Letterman also went over some of the highlights of Sheen’s very public downward spiral.

“My favorite moment was I got a text from someone, saying, ‘Charlie Sheen just called Thomas Jefferson a p***y,'” he recalls. “I said, ‘I think things are getting out of hand.'”

“This has never happened before. It wasn’t like, back in 1963, oh everyone remembers when Fred McMurray went bats**t and started talking about free mason ninjas and stuff,” he adds. “It was crazy. And Vivian Vance started urinating on the set of ‘Here’s Lucy.’ So nobody was prepared for this. None of us wanted to continue with the show if we felt it was hurting him, and there was a point when everyone felt like… there was no control here.”

But the series did regain control by replacing sheen with Ashton Kutcher — something Cryer (sarcastically) admits being skeptical about.

Referring to their private flight to the upfronts in May, Cryer says, “What gave me pause was Ashton came on the plane and said, ‘You know what I love about private jets? You can bring knives on board.'”
