jonathan rhys meyers star wars gi Jonathan Rhys Meyers to star in 'Star Wars: Episode VII'?

Take this news with a big grain of salt, but word on the street is that J.J. Abrams has found the man he’d like to have star in the new “Star Wars” trilogy, and it’s “The Tudors” star Jonathan Rhys Meyers.

This report comes from Latino Review and, again, is not confirmed. Meyers’ part would apparently be a “co-starring role,” meaning “Star Wars: Episode VII” will likely feature an ensemble cast like the original three “Star Wars” movies instead of having one primarly leading role like in the prequels.

There’s no word on what specific part Meyers could be playing, but it would make sense that Abrams would turn to him. The two men previously worked together on “Mission: Impossible III,” and Meyers does have the look of the “Star Wars” universe. Up next he’s starring in NBC’s “Dracula” and in “The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.”

So far there are no actors confirmed for “Star Wars: Episode VII,” though Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill are rumored to be returning. Abrams is directing off a script written by Michael Arndt. “Star Wars: Episode VII” is due out in theaters in summer 2015, with “Episode VIII” coming out in summer 2017 and “Episode IX” premiering in summer 2019. Meanwhile two “Star Wars” spinoff films will come out in summer 2016 and 2018, respectively.

Do you think Meyers is a good fit for “Star Wars: Episode VII”?
