jonathan strange mr norrell 'Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell' series coming to BBC AmericaBBC America will co-produce a seven-episode series based on “Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell,” the sprawling, best-selling novel by Susanna Clarke.

The BBC announced late last year that it had commissioned a series based on the novel. BBC America’s participation helps ensure the show will air in the United States as well — it’s scheduled for 2014 and will be part of the channel’s “Supernatural Saturday” programming.

Peter Harness (“Case Histories,” “Wallander”) is adapting Clarke’s book, which tells an alternative history of England in the early 19th century through the story of two magicians, Gilbert Norrell and Jonathan Strange. Toby Haynes (“Doctor Who,” “The Reichenbach Fall” episode of “Sherlock”) will direct.

Production is scheduled to begin in the summer in multiple locations, with part of the series set to film in Canada. No one is attached to the cast yet.

Are you excited at the idea of a “Jonathan Strange” series? Who would you like to see in the title roles?
