Things are getting dangerous at “S.H.I.E.L.D.,” Joss Whedon‘s pilot project for ABC. A new agent, played by nearly unknown actor Brett Dalton, has been cast.

Dalton will play Agent Grant in this action drama from Marvel’s “The Avengers” universe (as first reported by TVLine). Grant is described as a deadly and precise fighter who may lack a little bit in the “people skills” department.

This casting news marks the third major role announced for the potential TV series. Clark Gregg, who played Agent Coulson in several “Avengers”-related films, will reprise his role for the pilot. Ming-Na (“ER,” “Eureka”) has also been cast in the role of Agent Melinda May, a weapons expert.

Don’t feel bad if the name of Brett Dalton is unfamiliar to you — he hasn’t been in too much yet. The actor’s credits are limited mostly guest roles on “Blue Bloods” and “Army Wives,” although he also appears as Robert Todd Lincoln in the upcoming “Killing Lincoln.” It looks like “S.H.I.E.L.D.” may just be Dalton’s big break.

And it could be big. Huge even. The “S.H.I.E.L.D.” pilot will be directed by Whedon, who also co-wrote the script with Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen.
