Former NFL great Junior Seau’s death has been ruled a suicide.
The San Diego County medical examiner released the findings Thursday (May 3) afternoon that Seau died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest. Seau was found dead at his Oceanside, CA on Wednesday (May 2). He was 43 years old.
ESPN is reporting that Seau’s family has not yet determined whether they want to offer his brain up for study. If they did, it would be similar to what happened in the suicide of former NFL player Dave Duerson. Research later found that Duerson suffered from a neurodegenerative condition linked to repeated concussions.
Seau is survived by three children — 19-year-old Sydney Beau, 17-year-old Jake Ryan and 12-year-old Hunter Tiaina.
