walton goggins justified s4 'Justified' Season 4: Walton Goggins on Boyd's new nemesis and changes to his characterA preacher comes to town on the new season of “Justified,” and it does not sit well with Boyd Crowder.

For one thing, the preacher’s (guest star Joe Mazzello, “The Pacific”) message cuts into Boyd’s (Walton Goggins) business. But Goggins also says it takes his character back to a place he didn’t necessarily want to revisit.

“Over the course of the first three episodes, hopefully what you’ll see is a man who’s being asked to return to a very painful time in his life and to walk into a tent that reminds him of who he was and how disappointed he was,” Goggins tells Zap2it. “It’s his attempt to deal with that. It’s not something he wants to deal with. Ultimately it plays out the way that it plays out. It really affects Boyd.

“It’s good, man! Let me use an expletive — it’s f***ing rich!”

“Justified’s” new season also deals with a cold case involving Raylan’s (Timothy Olyphant) family. Goggins says both Raylan and Boyd are a little different this time around.

“I think by [creator Graham Yost‘s] decision, which is so smart, his decision not to have a season arc nemesis for both Boyd and Raylan, that it’s given him and us an opportunity to go back to these two guys and just spend time with them,” Goggins says. “Let them interact when they interact, but spend time in their worlds. Let’s see them again, without a distraction for a little while.

“At the end of the day it’s about these two guys who come from the same place and how one took one road and another took another road. It’s how they come apart and then come back together, come apart and come back together. So I’m really excited. It’s really different from what we’ve done before.”

“Justified” premieres at 10 p.m. ET Tuesday (Jan. 8) on FX.
