justin kirk gi Justin Kirk rules NBC's 'Animal Kingdom,' Jon Favreau directing 'Revolution' pilot“Weeds” star Justin Kirk is moving to NBC for a comedy pilot called “Animal Kingdom” — but that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s done with the Showtime series.

Kirk will play the lead role in “Animal Kingdom,” which is about a veterinarian who likes the animals he cares for a lot more than their owners. Deadline reports he’s also negotiating with Showtime about a new contract for Season 8 of “Weeds,” which will likely be the last for the show. The schedule for “Weeds” likely wouldn’t interfere with that for “Animal Kingdom” if the latter gets picked up for the 2012-13 season.

Brian Gatewood and Alex Tanaka (“The Sitter”) wrote the pilot and are executive producing with directors Anthony and Joe Russo (“Community”), Scot Armstrong and Ravi Nandan.

Other pilot-season news, also from Deadline:

Jon Favreau (“Iron Man”) will direct NBC’s Eric Kripke-J.J. Abrams drama pilot “Revolution,” set in a world where all technology has ceased to work. It’s Favreau’s first TV pilot as a director since the ABC comedy “In Case of Emergency” in the 2006-07 season.

– “Mr. Sunshine’s” Andrea Anders will star in an NBC comedy about two best friends, one of whom (Anders) has a seemingly perfect life and one who’s a complete mess. The project is from “New Adventures of Old Christine” creator Kari Lizer.

Aimee Garcia (“Dexter,” “Trauma”) is joining Jason Ritter in another NBC pilot, “County.” She’ll play an intern at a public hospital in the drama from “Parenthood” and “Friday Night Lights” executive producer Jason Katims.
