“The Duke [Prince William] and Duchess [Kate Middleton] have sent a personal note of congratulations to Barack Obama on his US re-election,” a source tells Us Weekly. Another palace insider adds, “Her Majesty [Queen Elizabeth] is pleased with the election result.”
Over the past four years, Obama and his wife Michelle have spent a good amount of time with the British royals and have seemingly bonded with them (just look at how cute they all are in the above picture). Beyond their political friendship, it makes sense why the royals wouldn’t have cast their vote for Mitt Romney. He didn’t make the best first impression as a presidential candidate when he questioned Great Britain’s preparedness for the London Olympics back in July.
“The stories about the private security firm not having enough people, the supposed strike of the immigration and customs officials — that obviously is not something which is encouraging,” he told NBC News at the time.
British Prime Minister David Cameron quickly rebuked Romney, causing him to backpedal on his comments, saying, “I applaud the work of the organising committee in bringing the Olympics right into the heart of London.”
