kate moss vanity fair gi Kate Moss: Breakup with Johnny Depp led to 'years and years of crying'Kate Moss is the cover subject for the December issue of Vanity Fair, and the accompanying profile describes some rather harrowing times in her life — including a long, long mourning period after she broke up with Johnny Depp in the late 1990s.

“There’s nobody that’s ever really been able to take care of me. Johnny did for a bit,” Moss tells the magazine. “I believed what he said. Like if I said, ‘What do I do?,’ he’d tell me. And that’s what I missed when I left. I really lost that gauge of somebody I could trust. Nightmare. Years and years of crying. Oh, the tears!”

In other excerpts from the story, Moss says “I don’t want to be myself, ever” — she even says she turned to her friend, designer John Galliano, on her wedding day last year and asked him for a character to play. His answer, according to her: “‘You have a secret — you are the last of the English roses. Hide under that veil. When he lifts it, he’s going to see your wanton past!'”

She also talks about becoming the inadvertent poster girl for the “heroin chic” style of the mid- and late ’90s (“I had never even taken heroin — it was nothing to do with me at all. … I was thin, but that’s because I was doing shows, working really hard”) and how she avoids paparazzi: “I just wear black jeans now. Or gray,” she says. “If you do a different look every day, they’re going to be waiting for the next look, and then it’s a paparazzi shot. Whereas if you just wear the same thing, then they get bored and leave you alone.”

Vanity Fair’s December issue will be on newsstands Nov. 6.
