Kate Upton is hanging up her bikini to conquer the world of high fashion. The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover model tells Vogue she wants to move from the beach to the runway and shine as a beacon of hope for young women who aren’t stick thin.
Designers like Michael Kors and Joseph Altuzarra are taking notice of Kate’s popularity, and she plans to set a good example by representing a curvier body shape on the catwalk. “I don’t want to starve myself,” Kate says. “I still want to hang out with my family and be a normal girl. You have to be confident, and that doesn’t mean starving yourself.”
An equestrian champ in her younger days, Kate insists she never aspired to create millions of YouTube hits with her now infamous bikini bod. “When I lived in Florida, the swimsuit was the key wardrobe piece,” she says. “I never sat there and said, ‘I want to be every man’s fantasy.’ It wasn’t a big deal to be in a bathing suit.”
Vogue’s gallery proves Kate’s got the physique to fill out a one-piece just as well as a bikini, and she rocks sportswear pretty well too. Now, when will she be a guest judge on “Project Runway?”
