katie couric official announcement leaving cbs evening news 320 Katie Couric officially leaving 'CBS Evening News.' Next step, ABC?

The speculation over Katie Couric’s sayonara from “CBS Evening News” can finally switch over to the newswoman’s next move. She has officially announced that she won’t renew her contract with the program when it’s up in June.
“I have decided to step down from the ‘CBS Evening News,'” Couric tells People.com. “I’m really proud of the talented team on the ‘CBS Evening News’ and the award-winning work we’ve been able to do in the past five years in addition to the reporting I’ve done for ’60 Minutes’ and ‘CBS Sunday Morning.’ In making the decision to move on, I know the ‘Evening News’ will be in great hands, but I am excited about the future.”
Couric’s future move will definitely fuel headlines in the coming weeks, but she seems to have an outline for what she wants if not an actual network in which she’ll make it happen.
“I am looking at a format that will allow me to engage in more multi-dimensional storytelling,” she says as reportedly CBS has offered her a daytime talk show and a continued role on “60 Minutes.”

Though, Couric’s announcement comes amid a new report from TV Guide saying ABC has moved into the No. 1 position to snag the 32-year broadcast veteran with a pretty impressive package of a daytime talk show plus the ability to cross into its news platforms, primetime specials, and its 2012 presidential coverage. CBS reportedly won’t match the latter half of that deal and NBC has reportedly stepped aside from the bidding war altogether.
“They are still in the station business,” says one inside source who says the loss of “The Oprah Winfrey Show” may be fueling ABC’s intense interest in Couric. “They are not going to go with those new daytime shows after killing their soaps and losing Oprah, leading into the evening news and prime time.”

What do you think Couric should do next?
