Up until now, Keith Olbermann has only been talking (or ranting) about his recent firing from Current TV on Twitter. Well, the newsman went to a much larger audience on Tuesday (April 3), specifically “The Late Show with David Letterman,” and opened up about his ousting.
“I screwed up really big on this,” Olbermann says of signing on with Current TV. “I thought we could do this. It’s my fault that it didn’t succeed in the sense that I didn’t think the whole thing through.”
In a braggadocio that’s become a hallmark of Olbermann (often to his detriment), he essentially says that the network was ill-prepared to deal with someone of his value.
“I didn’t say, ‘You know, if you buy a $10 million chandelier, you should have a house to put it in. Just walking around with a $10 million chandelier isn’t going to do anybody a lot of good, and it’s not going to do any good to the chandelier.'” Olbermann adds. “And then it turned out we didn’t have a lot to put the house on to put the chandelier in, or a building permit, and I, I should have known that.”
Letterman did have a little fun at Olbermann’s expense. Given his penchant for not staying at one outlet too long, the late night host presented Olbermann with an adjustable business card with rotating employers.
