Comedian Kevin James‘ next movie is called “Grown Ups,” but his next audience will be a bunch of kids.
James has been named host of the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards, which means he’ll put squarely in the path of a sliming for a good hour and a half. The 23rd annual awards will air live at 8 p.m. ET March 27.
“Simply put, Kevin James is hilarious,” says Marjorie Cohn, Nick’s head of original programming and an executive producer of the awards. “Kids love his willingness to play and be outrageous.”
As you might expect, “Twilight,” Miley Cyrus, the Jonas Brothers and Cole and Dylan Sprouse (of “Suite Life on Deck” fame) are among the leading nominees for the awards. Voting on all the nominees opens Feb. 25.
James, for his part, says hosting the Kids Choice Awards fills a void in his life: “I have been lucky enough to live more than my share of dreams — a hit TV show, a hit movie, a beautiful family, and, of course, that prize-winning watermelon I grew last summer. Yet throughout it all, I’ve had this nagging feeling that my journey wasn’t complete. Oh, sure, it’s been quite a ride, but it lacked something … something green, slimy, oozing, slippery and dangerous! That’s right — there’s been no slime … until today! In short, I guess you could say hosting the Kid’s Choice Awards completes me.”
