kirk cameron Kirk Cameron blames Piers Morgan for selective editing in anti gay controversy; Morgan fires backActor Kirk Cameron remains at the center of controversy following recent remarks in which he called homosexuality “unnatural” and “destructive to so many foundations of civilization.” However the former “Growing Pains” star is attempting to explain his statements and clear the air.

In an interview on “Today” on Tuesday (March 20), Cameron says he believes he was simply a victim of selective editing on the part of CNN’s Piers Morgan, the show he was on when he made these statements.

Cameron says, “When you take a subject and you reduce it to something like a four-second soundbite and a check mark on a ballot, I think that that’s inappropriate and insensitive. The truth is these are issues that are very personal, these are things that need to be discussed in the context.”

Cameron says in no way were his comments from the broadcast intended to be hurtful.

“I love all people. I hate no one,” he tells Ann Curry. “Nobody should mistreat anyone. Homosexuals should not be mistreated. Heterosexuals should not be mistreated. Bisexuals should not be mistreated.”

Morgan, who has defended Cameron for his right to make perceived anti-gay comments, didn’t take kindly to this criticism from Cameron.

Morgan writes on Twitter, “Kirk Cameron is moaning everywhere today that I stitched him up by releasing a 4-second ‘soundbite’ re his comments on gay marriage. These are the 4 seconds: homosexuality is ‘unnatural..detrimental, and ultimately destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization.’ Mr Cameron ‘stands by the comments’, despite his whining. So I’ll let others decide if he was stitched up…or just a bigot.”

Cameron adds that he’s been the victim for his self-professed position as a “Bible-believing Christian.”

“When people start bullying one another, calling each other names for those different convictions, then I think you get into problems,” Cameron says. “I’ve also been on the receiving end of that.”
