Lady Gaga refused to cancel her concert in Phoenix on Saturday (July 31) over the state’s controversial new immigration laws.
Performers including Kanye West, Rage Against the Machine and Maroon 5 have all boycotted the state.
But according to the British paper, the Sun, Gaga told the audience why she refused and how she feels about the controversial Senate Bill 1070: “I got a phone call from a couple of really big rock n rollers, big pop stars, big rappers. They said, ‘We’d like you to boycott Arizona because of SB 1070.’
“And I said, ‘Do you really think that us dumb f****** pop stars are going to collapse the economy of Arizona? I’ll tell you what we have to do about SB 1070. We have to be active. We have to actively protest.”
Gaga then issued what amounted to a battle cry against the discriminatory new state immigration law.
