larry king piers morgan Larry King could stick around a little longerLarry King‘s tenure as a CNN host may go on slightly longer than originally planned.

Or not. Depending on the source, CNN has either encountered some delays in announcing Piers Morgan as King’s replacement in the middle of its prime-time lineup or is just waiting for a time when the official announcement will get the most play.

First, the glass-half-empty scenario: The New York Post reports that Morgan, a Brit best known here for being an “America’s Got Talent” judge, has had trouble getting the right kind of work visa that would allow him to work full-time in the United States. If those issues can’t be worked out quickly, it could mean King stays on for a while longer.

When he announced in June that “Larry King Live” would be ending, King said his final show would be in the fall. That’s a pretty wide window, although the Post says the plan was to have Morgan’s show launch “by late October or early November.”

On the other hand: Citing a source close to the negotiations, The Wrap reports that Morgan is not having visa issues (“absolutely untrue,” this person says) and that CNN wants its announcement to get maximum exposure. Morgan is scheduled to appear at the Emmys next weekend, and “America’s Got Talent” is in the final few weeks of its season.

The announcement, the source says, will be timed to a “massive press cycle” for Morgan.
