larry king cnn 320 Larry King returns to broadcasting on Internet based Ora.TVJust more than a year after getting pushed out at CNN, veteran broadcaster Larry King is making his return. Only this time it’s on the Internet.

Carlos Slim Helu, the richest man in the world, announced on Monday (March 12) that he’s financing an Internet TV station called Ora.TV. And his first major hire for on-air talent is King.

In a statement, King says, “I am thrilled to be working with Carlos and Jon [Housman, Ora.TV’s CEO] to create Ora.TV, a bold new model for digital television. The backing of Carlos–given his stellar track record in business–combined with Jon’s track record of leadership and innovation, is a recipe for success.”

The New York Times reports that the site will be supported by advertising and not by subscriptions. It is slated to begin sometime this year, although an actual start date isn’t set.

Despite King’s age, Ora.TV’s Housman is convinced that they’ve made the right hire and that King will match up well with their target audience.

“Larry King’s access to and insight into top newsmakers is simply unparalleled. His experience, his relationships, and his fan base – including millions of Twitter followers – are outstanding assets to help launch a new kind of digital network,” Housman says.

So Zappers, do you think anyone will tune in online to see Larry King?
