The 2012 Miss America pageant may have been eclipsed by the weekend’s Golden Globe Awards, but newly-crowned Miss America Laura Kaeppeler deserves at least her 15 minutes of fame.
The Wisconsin native (sorry about Green Bay, by the way) is a 2010 graduate of Carthage College who studied singing — and she showed off her skills with her operatic talent competition performance. She also impressed judges with her response when asked to discuss the “current state of divisive partisan politics in Washington.”
Miss America, she responded, represents all people and in these difficult economic times, politicians should look to what all of America needs.
She’s also the founder of Circles of Support — a group that helps children with parents in jail or prison. Kaeppeler herself was once the child of an incarcerated parent, according to her official website. To fulfill her Miss America duties she’ll be taking a break from running her private music studio where she’s a voice and piano instructor.
