Iconic CBS anchorman Walter Cronkite died Friday at the age of 92.

He had been the anchor of the CBS Evening News for 19 years. But he had been suffering from a cerebrovascular disease, which affects blood vessels in the brain.

I will always remember his evening's end catchphrase, “And that’s the way it is.”

Somehow he helped us get through the horror of the Vietnam War, the wonder of the Apollo moon landing, and the embarrassment of Watergate.

And he even cried reporting the death of President John F. Kennedy in November of 1963.

Watch the video above.

Seeing Walter Cronkite cry that night gave my parents  – and me — permission to cry.

We will miss you, Uncle Walter.
