The website Occupy Writers has launched as a means for writers to support the Occupy Wall Street protests, and the latest addition to the group is Lemony Snicket, the narrator of “A Series of Unfortunate Events.”
Snicket is the pen name for novelist Daniel Handler, and also a character within the books and stories. He has presented the site with a list of “Thirteen Observations made by Lemony Snicket while watching Occupy Wall Street from a Discreet Distance,” naturally.
“If you work hard, and become successful, it does not necessarily mean you are successful because you worked hard, just as if you are tall with long hair it doesn’t mean you would be a midget if you were bald,” he quips with the wry humor that was made famous by the best-selling books and the 2004 hit film bearing his name.
We particularly like the sentiment: “Someone feeling wronged is like someone feeling thirsty. Don’t tell them they aren’t. Sit with them and have a drink.”
Over 950 authors have added their names to the list of those writers who support Occupy Wall Street and the Occupy Movement around the world.
