DiCaprio has signed on to star in an adaptation of John D. MacDonald’s 1978 novel “The Deep Blue Goodbye,” according to the trades. The role — a slacker beachcomber who moonlights as a “salvage expert,” an unofficial private investigator — may seem a natural for the star of 2000’s “The Beach.” Bear in mind, though, that MacDonald’s character of Travis McGee is 60 years old.

20th Century Fox will distribute the film, though there’s no word yet on when filming will begin or a tentative release date.

“House” star Olivia Wilde is going from Thirteen to “Three.”

Wilde has agreed to co-star in the Russell Crowe thriller “The Next Three Days,” according to The Hollywood Reporter. She’ll play a young mom who supports Crowe; Crowe, meanwhile, is convinced wife Elizabeth Banks is innocent of the murder charge for which she’s on trial. “The Black Donnellys” star Jonathan Tucker will also appear in the film as a meth dealer.

Filming begins in early October in Pittsburgh.
