“Les Miserables,” the 1862 Victor Hugo novel set during the June Rebellion in France, was adapted as a stage musical in Paris in 1980 and went on to become one of the most successful musicals of all time. The novel has received many film and television adaptations, but December 2012 will see the first big-screen production of the musical.

The cavalcade of stars involved include Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Eddie Redmayne, Sacha Baron Cohen and Helena Bonham Carter. And the first official trailer has us absolutely giddy with excitement.

In the trailer, scenes from throughout the movie flash by as Anna Hathaway as factor worker Fantine sings one of the best-known songs from the musical, “I Dreamed a Dream.” Are you as excited as we are? Which song is your favorite (if you can even choose)?
