Rapper Lil Boosie, also known as Torence Hatch, was found not guilty of murder by a jury of his peers on Friday, after a brief deliberation. In 2009, victim Terry Boyd was shot through the window while standing in his own home. Prosecutors accused Lil Boosie of hiring Michael “Marlo Mike” Louding to kill Boyd.
Boyd’s sister, Rochelle Wagner, has a 5-year-old daughter with Boosie. After hearing the jury’s verdict, she left the courtroom crying. According to USA Today, she did not speak with reporters.
When the verdict was read, Boosie pumped his fist. “You’ve been found not guilty. You stuck your fist up in the air and I can’t exactly say that I blame you,” the judge said to him.
“The quick verdict showed that they should never
have charged him,” said Boosie’s lawyer. “We didn’t call a single witness
because every single witness they called, even the police officers, did
not say anything connecting Torence to this.”
Boosie remains in jail, though, serving out an 8-year sentence for drug charges. He’s also been accused of trying to smuggle “sizzurp” — a coedine-based drug cocktail — into his Louisiana prison.
