lil wayne seizures usher shoutout gi Lil Wayne gets shout out from Usher at SXSW: 'My friend is going through a hard time'The annual SXSW music festival in Austin, Tex. is never complete without some mega-buzzworthy surprise guests, and 2013 is no exception. Usher surprised fans by joining indie rock darlings the Afghan Whigs on stage at the Fader Fort Presented by Converse event.

The Whigs launched into a cover of Usher’s “Climax,” and the crowd went wild when the man behind the tune walked on stage for the second verse. When the song ended, Usher asked the audience to join him in sending positive vibes to Lil Wayne, who was reportedly in critical condition at a Los Angeles hospital Friday (March 15) after suffering the latest in a round of multiple seizure bouts.

“I don’t mean to bring everybody down, but right now I think I want to just ask something of you guys,” Usher told the adoring crowd. “One of my fellow artists, good friend, Lil Wayne is going through a real hard time right now, y’all. And I just want to send a lot of positive attitude about his state. And a lot of positive energy out there right now. Can you guys make some noise for Lil Wayne one time? You know it’s ultimately about positive energy. You believe in that? So one time make some noise.”

After the shout out, Usher launched into “OMG” with the Whigs as his backing band. The latest report on Wayne indicates the “Look At Me Now” rapper’s prognosis is “uncertain.” But a mysterious tweet that came from Wayne’s official account while he was said to be in a medically induced coma in ICU contributed to conflicting reports about his condition. “I’m good everybody. Thx for the prayers and love,” read the tweet.
