matt barber lily james downton abbey season 5 Lily James 'hoping to come back' for 'Downton Abbey' Season 6The Season 5 finale of “Downton Abbey” saw a pair of possible departures, with Branson (Allen Leech) seemingly ready to embark for America with daughter Sybbie and Lady Rose (Lily James) marrying Atticus and leaving the estate to start her life with him.

It was reported in early 2014 that due to her “Cinderella” press tour schedule, James would likely to be unable to take part in “Downton’s” sixth season. Things are still up in the air, but the actress tells Zap2it during the “Cinderella’ press junket that she’s hopeful about returning.

“I’m really hoping to come back. I feel like it’s definitely going to happen,” says James. “It depends on what [creator Julian Fellowes] writes and all sorts of things.”

As for where she’d like her character to go, James laughs and says, “I don’t know where I want it to go. Part of me wants her to like lose her s*** and come back completely wrecked and a ruined woman, and part of me wants her to keep her happily ever after.”

Knowing “Downton Abbey,” it really could go either way. But whether a ruined woman or a happy newlywed, Zap2it is hoping that Lady Rose does pop up at least once or twice in Season 6.

“Cinderella” opens nationwide Friday, March 13.
