Disney has dropped a new trailer for “Cinderella” in the most magical of ways — releasing it at the stroke of midnight on New Year’s Eve. Time is certainly of the essence in the preview that gives viewers a closer look at the characters in the upcoming live action film.
In the film “Downton Abbey” star Lily James plays the title character whose life is changed forever in one night by the Fairy Godmother (Helena Bonham Carter). The new trailer shows the magical moment Cinderella is introduced to the famous glass slippers and, who knew, but the glass shoes are actually very comfortable. Then it appears Cinderella really battles with the race against time as the spell will be broken at the stroke of midnight and all the magic disappears. Poor Cinderella doesn’t even get to tell the totally swoonworthy Prince Charming (“Game of Thrones” star Richard Madden) her name since she is so rushed.
Then once the magic is gone, it appears as though the glass slipper ends up in the hands of Cinderella’s evil stepmother, played fabulously by Cate Blanchett, who smashes it against the wall in a fit when it doesn’t fit her or her daughters.
Even though Cinderella fans know everything has a happy ending, the trailer definitely promises suspense as the clock is ticking in this updated version — and honestly who doesn’t want to see more Richard Madden?
Disney’s “Cinderella” hits theaters March 15, 2015.
