linkin-park-MTV-mtvU-fandom-awards-comic-con.jpgMTV announced Thursday (June 5) that Grammy-winning rock band Linkin Park is going to headline the first ever mtvU Fandom Awards and MTV Fan Fest, both of which are being hosted Thursday, July 24 at Petco Park during San Diego Comic-Con.

“The mtvU Fandom Awards will reinvent the traditional award show format,” says executive producer Ryan Kroft. “In addition to handing out trophies, we will recognize the achievements of fans and their favorite obsessions with special surprises and experiences. It’s the perfect event to reward the fans at Comic-Con, the epicenter of all fandoms.”

Linkin Park will kick things off with a rousing set live at Petco Park, which will be free and open to all Comic-Con badge holders. The concert will have food, drinks, games and giveaways and will lead into the Fandom Awards that evening.

If you aren’t already booked for Comic-Con, starting on June 17 — the release date of Linkin Park’s newest album, “The Hunting Party” — fans can enter to win the Ultimate Fan Experience at for a VIP trip to the awards that includes a meet-and-greet with the band.

For more information, visit Fandom Award voting categories and nominees will be announced at a later date. This ultimate celebration for diehard fans to honor their favorite shows and movies of the past year will air in an hour-long special Sunday, July 27 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.
