lone star james wolk adrianne eloise mumford 'Lone Star' not dead yet, so please watchDespite some pretty dismal ratings for the “Lone Star” premiere on FOX Monday night (Sept. 20), FOX has not given up yet, according to NY Mag.

The network is going to give “Lone Star” one more week, despite pulling just 4 million viewers for the first episode. We’re glad FOX isn’t giving up on one of the best shows of the fall 2010 season, but we worry that it won’t fare any better up against another week of “Dancing With the Stars,” CBS’ comedy lineup and “The Event,” which got decent ratings for NBC.

There are several more episodes in the can, so we would like to suggest that FOX try “Lone Star” in an easier timeslot because this show deserves to be on the air. The writing is sharp, the acting is superb and the concept is actually (gasp) original.

We also don’t like the message this sends to networks about outside-the-box programming. Sure, critics have said that “Lone Star” is more of a cable show (and it got great numbers for a cable show), but we thought it was so great of FOX to give it a chance. And now it looks like that chance may be over, even if FOX gives “Lone Star” another episode. After this dismal performance, are we more likely to see more “Lone Stars” or more cookie-cutter procedurals and laugh-track sitcoms?
