lucy lawless greenpeace Lucy Lawless sentenced after illegally boarding an oil drillship

“Xena: Warrior Princess” star Lucy Lawless took the fight to the sea last year, when she illegally boarded an oil drillship to protest drilling in the Arctic. Lawless, along with six others, got past security at a New Zealand shipyard, before boarding the boat, according to One News.
After boarding the vessel, they remained camped out it over 70 hours, before being removed by police. Wednesday, in court, Lawless and her fellow protesters were sentenced to 120 hours of community service each, which she will probably do protecting the ocean, along with a fine of $651.44.
It’s not a bad price to pay for bringing all of this attention to your cause. Lawless thinks their protest played a significant role in raising awareness. “Since we occupied the Noble Discoverer,” she says, ” it has become evident to everyone watching, from the millions who have signed Greenpeace petitions, to the US Government, now examining Shell’s plans, that it can never be safe to drill in the Arctic.”
