The “Mad Men” star was a producer and co-star of “Friends With Kids,” the 2011 acting-writing-producing-directing venture by his longtime girlfriend, Jennifer Westfeldt. While he says he enjoyed collaborating with her on that comedy, he’s not sure she’ll turn up anytime soon on his acclaimed AMC series, which begins its sixth season Sunday, April 7.

Hamm confirms to Zap2it that he sees “Mad Men,” in part, as “a way for me and Jen to get things done. Raising money and putting things together is hard under the best of circumstances, and we’ve been able to find fun things to do. And hopefully, we’ll find more.

“I’m not a writer,” adds the actor who’s helped make 1960s ad man Don Draper an iconic television character, “and Jen wouldn’t describe herself as a writer, either. She’s an actress first, but she’ll do the other because she has a story she wants to tell. I’ve been a fan of her acting and writing — and of her — for what’s going on 15 years now, so it’s nice that we’ve been able to do things together.”

“Mad Men” may not join that list, though Westfeldt has done home-screen work on such series as “24,” “Grey’s Anatomy” and (pre-dating her movie “Kissing Jessica Stein”) “Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place.”

“I don’t know, I don’t cast the show,” Hamm reasons. “If there was a part that she was right for, she could come in for it. I think in the larger sense, though, it’s best that we keep those two worlds separate … simply for sanity’s sake.”
