Madonna threatened to cancel a concert in Santiago, Chile when fans refused to quit smoking during her sound check. Us Weekly reports the Queen of Pop interrupted her performance to call out fans who were smoking in the audience.
“There are people smoking right now,” says Madonna. “If you’re gonna smoke cigarettes, I’m not doing a show. You don’t care about me, I don’t care about you. All right?”
When fans refused to oblige, Madonna got testy. “Are we going to play that game? I’m not kidding,” she says. “I can’t sing if you smoke, entiendes?”
Whoops. Someone in the audience yelled back to Madonna, “We love you,” but she wasn’t amused. Madonna retorted, “If you love me, then don’t smoke. No smoking! You’re looking right at me while you’re smoking cigarettes, like I’m a stupid f***ing idiot.”
She stormed off the stage, but came back and performed the concert as scheduled. Madonna’s current MDNA tour has been fraught with controversy, not the least of which was some ticked off fans in Colorado who didn’t appreciate her use of guns on stage.
Madonna’s daughter, Lourdes Leon has been photographed puffing on a cigarette and Madonna herself smokes away in her “Girl Gone Wild” music video, which begs the question: Is Madonna being a hypocrite?
