WGN America is using the premiere of its first original series, “Salem,” to tease its next project: The World War II-era drama “Manhattan.”

The show centers on the scientists working on the Manhattan Project, which developed the first atomic bombs during the Second World War. It’s set in Los Alamos, N.M., where much of the work on the project took place under strict secrecy. The show will also depict the toll that secrecy took on the few people who knew what was happening.

“Manhattan’s” cast includes John Benjamin Hickey (“The Big C”), Olivia Williams (“Dollhouse,” “Rushmore”), Daniel Stern and Ashley Zukerman. Sam Shaw (“Masters of Sex”) created the series, and Emmy winner Thomas Schlamme (“The West Wing,” “The Americans”) directed the pilot.

“Manhattan” is set to premiere in the summer on WGN America (which like Zap2it is part of Tribune Company). You can see the trailer on screen during the “Salem” premiere, which airs at 10 p.m. ET/9 CT Sunday (April 20).
