martin sheen Martin Sheen and Emilio Estevez on Charlie: He is 'emotionally crippled'Martin Sheen has been relatively quiet throughout his son Charlie Sheen‘s very public tiger-blood warlock meltdown of winningness. He’s been busy focusing on work, promoting the upcoming film “The Way,” a father-son drama that co-stars Emilio Estevez, Sheen’s other son. The one who has yet to publicly address his Adonis DNA.

Now that the Sheenisms have died down and Charlie’s tweets have stopped making front-page news, Martin and Emilio have spoken to Telegraph about Charlie’s problems.
Martin feels that Charlie is still an emotional child as a result of his substance abuse problems. “When you’re addicted, you don’t grow emotionally,” he says. “So when you get clean and sober you’re starting at the moment you started using drugs or alcohol. You’re emotionally crippled.”
The whole nervous breakdown thing may run in the family.

“I know what hell he’s living in. I’ve had psychotic episodes in public. One of them was on camera – the opening scene of ‘Apocalypse Now,'” Martin says. “I know what Charlie is going through. And when you do something like that, that is out of control, that’s the most difficult thing. You have to have courage.”

As for Estevez, who was recently a trending topic on Twitter as millions of fans begged Coach Bombay to help guide Charlie into the comfort of the Flying V, he says he hopes his brother will find a “moment of clarity” to turn his dire situation around.

“There’s always hope, and there are so many examples of people pulling themselves out of the s**t and having a rebirth,” he says.

Here’s to hoping.
