mauratierney parenthood Maura Tierney quits 'Parenthood' for cancer treatmentsMaura Tierney‘s illness has caused her to pull out from work.

The actress has dropped out of NBC’s upcoming drama “Parenthood” because her breast cancer treatments are causing a scheduling conflict with the show’s production, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“Ms. Tierney and her doctors remain confident that the outcome of her treatments will be positive,” says Tierney’s spokeswoman. “She is deeply disappointed that she will not be able to rejoin such a highly respected, talented, fun and funny group of actors and wishes to thank Jason Katims and NBC for their patience and support.”

Recasting is underway.

Tierney, 44, revealed that she was undergoing surgery and other treatment for breast cancer in mid-July. At the time, she had planned to only take an eight-week leave from “Parenthood.” The show shut down production at that time and moved its premiere date to midseason to accommodate her since she plays one of the lead adult siblings on the family drama based on the 1980s film of the same name.

“Mercy,” a medical drama centering on nurses, was pushed up to the fall premiere date.
