miss usa winner erin brady gi Meet Erin Brady: Miss USA winner comes from an alcoholic past

Erin Brady is the new Miss USA. Formerly Miss Connecticut, the 25-year-old will be heading to Moscow later in 2013 to compete for the title of Miss Universe. She beat out Miss Alabama, Mary Margaret McCord, in the June 16 competition.

Heralding from East Hampton, Conn., Brady has a strong career outside of the pageant world. Brady’s Miss USA page reveals that she graduated Central Connecticut State University with a degree in Finance and minor in Criminal Justice. That landed her a position at Prudential Retirement where she works as a Financial Accountant where she controls a team of workers. Following her Miss Universe aspirations, Brady says she plans to get an MBA and one day get involved in Pension Risk Transfers.

Brady made a big splash during the Miss USA competition with her “Final Question” response. She supported the Supreme Court’s stance on DNA testing for criminals after they have been arrested, and clearly knew a thing or two about the subject thanks to her Criminal Justice background. Interestingly enough, Brady was raised in a home where her family was “heavily influenced by alcohol and substance abuse and she sadly remembers the lack of support and places to turn to for the children of addicts.”

As such, Brady has made it her goal to “break the cycle of addiction as she plans to be an advocate for children of alcohol and substance abuse.” “I grew up in a family influenced by that and I think it’s really important to help the children of families that are suffering from those problems,” she tells the Associated Press.

In addition to helping those influenced by alcoholism and substance abuse, Brady will spend her time as Miss USA living in Manhattan and traveling the world to raise awareness for breast cancer. Brady has worked with the Ferrari and Friends Concorso, Children’s Medical Hospital, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Walk for The Cure events and Habitat for Humanity in the past.
