sherlock noomi Meet Noomi Rapace: From 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' to 'Sherlock Holmes'While we’re anticipating Rooney Mara‘s turn as Lizbeth Salander in “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo,” it’s certainly important to note that two years before Mara transformed into the troubled Salander for David Fincher‘s film, Swedish actress Noomi Rapace played the role to rave reviews overseas.

Rapace, who can soon be seen alongside Robert Downey Jr. in “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows,” impressed Downey when they first met. Later, when he saw “Tattoo,” he was even intimidated by her skill. “I saw the movie and thought, my God, how are we going to take all that
she’s capable of and make this role worth her while and show a different
side of her?” he tells the AP.

When Fincher’s English-language remake of Rapace’s “Tattoo” was being cast, many suggested that Rapace should reprise the role she’d embodied so well. Rapace herself, though, was not interested.

“I was done with her, and I felt like I left her when I was
finished with the third movie,” she says. “I couldn’t see any reason
of kind of doing it again. I never want to repeat myself. I always want
to move on and do new things. So no, it was not for me.”

Instead, she finds herself starring in what is arguably “Tattoo’s” strongest competition during the holiday movie season. Weigh in below in the comments section. Which is first on your list of movies to check out this winter — “Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” or “Sherlock Holmes”?
