megan welter iraq war vet arizona cardinals Megan Welter, Iraq War vet turned Arizona Cardinals cheerleader, accused of assaultWell, this certainly wasn’t expected.

Just days after Megan Welter, an Iraq War veteran turned Arizona Cardinals cheerleader, made national news with the story of her inspiring background, it’s been revealed that she’s been accused of assaulting her boyfriend.

Scottsdale police say Welter was arrested on July 20 on charges if disorderly conduct, alleged assault and criminal damage. On the evening of her arrest, Welter told police that she and her boyfriend of six months had gone to a Scottsdale bar to celebrate her birthday.

AS CBS affiliate KPHO reports, according to a police report, when the couple arrived home, Welter went to sleep before waking around 3:15 a.m. and entered into an argument with her boyfriend over a text message he’d received from an ex-girlfriend.

The cheerleader allegedly asked that her boyfriend let her see the ex’s Facebook page before throwing her cell phone at him. She then allegedly hit and scratched the man, and pulled his hair.

According to KPHO, she was the one who called 911, telling police that her boyfriend was a professional fighter, had smashed her head into the wall and refused to leave her property. The boyfriend countered that claim, telling police he couldn’t leave because Welter had cut up his driver’s license.

Welter also alleged that her boyfriend had choked her, although police weren’t about to find any evidence to support that claim.
