mel gibson gi Mel Gibson understatement of the century 'I've got a little bit of a temper'When Mel Gibson paid Jay Leno a visit on “The Tonight Show” April 27, he was ostensibly there to talk about his new movie, “Get the Gringo.” Naturally, though, Leno couldn’t let him go without asking him at least a little bit about his highly publicized feud with screenwriter Joe Eszterhas.

“Maybe you don’t know this about me — I’ve got a little bit of a temper,” he tells Leno, before going on to explain that his’s rant during a disagreement that Eszterhas taped and later leaked online was sparked by the writer’s delay in delivering a script for “The Maccabees,” the movie they were making together.

on it, he comes over and eats lunch and talks about the roof and then
you get rained on all night. Wouldn’t you be kind of

Leno lets him off easy and doesn’t push too hard, which seems fair because the “Tonight Show” host is a comedian — not a journalist. But still, Gibson seems to think he’s getting off the hook for his behavior when it’s hard to believe he could say anything that would justify why he did.

What’s your take on the situation? Was Leno too soft on Gibson, or is that explanation sufficient?
