Mia Maestro has landed the female lead in FX’s hot pilot “The Strain” based on the vampire novel trilogy by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan.
Corey Stoll (“House of Cards”) is already set to star as Dr. Ephraim Goodweather and Maestro will play his colleague and lover Dr. Nora Martinez in the series about a mysterious viral outbreak that turns people into vampires. Kevin Durand (who played Martin Keamy on “Lost”) is also in the cast as Vasily Fet, an exterminator turned eager vampire slayer.
Although only in the pilot stage right now, FX is expected to order 13 episodes of the series which is also executive produced by Carlton Cuse (“Lost,” “Bates Motel”). Del Toro will direct the pilot and co-wrote the script with Hogan.
Maestro was a series regular on the final two seasons of ABC’s “Alias” and also appeared in NBC’s short-lived “Crusoe.” She also has experience with vampires, having played Carmen in both parts of blockbuster “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn.”
