mia youtube M.I.A. will get stuck with any fine for Super Bowl bird flipIt was only one little digit. But if the FCC imposes a fine for M.I.A.’s Super Bowl halftime bird flipping, the rapper is going to be stuck with the bill.

TMZ is reporting that the NFL and NBC learned their lesson from Janet Jackson’s famed “wardrobe malfunction,” and have indemnified themselves against such a penalty. Instead, any fines assessed will be passed along to the perpetrator – in this case, M.I.A.

It was during the performance of “Give Me All Your Luvin’,” the 36-year-old decided to give the finger to the millions of viewers watching the game.

Following the event NBC apologized, saying, “The NFL hired the talent and produced the halftime show. Our system was late to obscure the inappropriate gesture and we apologize to our viewers.”

The NFL echoed the sentiment, although passed the blame back to NBC saying, “There was a failure in NBC’s delay system. The obscene gesture in the performance was completely inappropriate, very disappointing, and we apologize to our fans.”

While it’s not known if there will be a fine levied by the FCC, Jackson’s notorious exposure cost CBS $550,000.
