Police suspect that Rudy Eugene, 31, was under the influence of “bath salts” — new drug similar to LSD — when he attacked a homeless man on a Miami bridge on Saturday (May 26) and proceeded to chew off his face.

Now video footage obtained by the Miami Herald shows the entire 18-minute attack, which was captured by security cameras at the Herald building, which is near the bridge where the attack went down.

The tape shows Eugene dragging his victim from a shaded area of the bridge, stripping off his clothes, then beating him as the victim attempts to fight him off. Then Eugene spends several minutes crouched over his victim — a period in which at least five passers-by noted the activity and called police.

“When the officer approached him, told him to stop, pointed a gun at him, he turned around and growled like a wild animal and kept eating at the man’s face,” Armando Aguilar, president of the Fraternal Order of Police, tells WPLG.

The night before the attack, the Miami Herald reports that Eugene had been with his girlfriend who tells police he was acting strangely.

Aguilar adds that four other similar incidents have occurred in the Miama area recently.

The victim — identified as 65-year-old homeless man Ronald Poppo — remains in critical condition, but his nose, eyes and large portions of his face were torn off in the attack.

Glen Mazzara, showrunner of AMC’s popular zombie apocalypse drama “The Walking Dead,” tweeted about the incident on Tuesday, writing, “This horrible attack in Miami is a tragedy. Let’s remember it’s real.”
