michael jackson gi autopsy Michael Jackson autopsy special outrages fans, estateIt’s been a year and a half since the Michael Jackson died, but that isn’t stopping Discovery Channel UK from capitalizing on the King of Pop’s death.

The British network is airing the documentary special “Michael Jackson’s Autopsy: What Really Killed Michael Jackson” on Thursday, Jan. 13.

The special will re-create Jackson’s autopsy, although it’s not clear exactly how much of the gory details will be shared. Regardless, both fans and the pop star’s estate are fighting back to try and prevent the program from airing, reports TMZ.

Fans have started a petition: “We ask the directors of the Discovery Channel programming to proceed with the outright cancellation of this indecent documentary, detrimental to both the person and his family and loved ones. UNITE against the ignominy!”

Meanwhile, co-executors of MJ’s estate, John Branca and John McClain, have sent an angry letter to Discovery CEO David Zaslav.

“Your decision to even schedule this program is in shockingly bad taste,” reads the letter. “[The program] appears motivated solely by your blind desire to exploit Michael’s death, while cynically attempting to dupe the public into believing this show will have serious medical value.”

Thus far, the special has not been scheduled to air in the U.S. or other Discovery territories.
