michael shannon getty Michael Shannon talks about 'Man Of Steel' villain General Zod

You can trash the costume, you can talk smack about Henry Cavill, you can even throw mud at director Zack Snyder. But the upcoming Superman reboot “Man Of Steel” has one foolproof thing going for it — criminally underrated actor and Oscar nominee Michael Shannon is playing Kryptonian bad guy General Zod.

Leaked set photos have shown an actor that looks like Michael Shannon (hey, they’re set photos) wearing a full motion capture suit. Shannon has confirmed that indeed it is him and that General Zod will have a CGI costume.

“[I]t’s one of the most humiliating garments that exists in the known universe…It’s very tight. It has a variety of different colors and shapes on it and it makes you feel like you’re a court jester.”

The CGI savvy Snyder has assured Shannon that the costume will be something to remember. Shannon recalled Snyder’s justification for the silly suit: “Dude, I swear to God, it’s going to be so bada** when we’re done. Trust me, it’s going to be wicked.”

In a talk with MTV News, Shannon stated that he will not be seeking inspiration from Terrence Stamp’s performance of the character in 1980’s “Superman II.”

“I’m not going to impersonate Terrence Stamp. I’m not going to have a British accent or anything…There’s a lot of really great opportunities to re-invent it for myself.”

For those unfamiliar with General Zod, get your nerd on here. And kneel before Zod!
