miley cyrus singing getty Miley Cyrus says salvia 'was a bad decision': Does she owe an apology?Since appearing in a viral video in which she smoked a bong full of salvia (a legal herb) and narrated her “bad trip,” Miley Cyrus has remained silent, holed up in New Orleans where she’s shooting “So Undercover” with Kelly Osbourne.

She’s finally breaking her silence on the cover of this month’s Marie Claire, with a string of publicist-approved niceties. “I’m sorry. I never, ever said I was perfect,” she says. “I made a mistake … I’m disappointed in myself for disappointing my fans.’

But does she really have anything to apologize for? What she did was entirely legal, and it’s not like she did it in the middle of Times Square. Her trust was violated by a friend with a camera (or a friend-of-a-friend who stole a camera, whatever), and otherwise, the children of America never would have seen the video. At 18 years old, plenty of Miley’s peers are doing plenty worse than smoking a legal herb at a house party.

“But they’re not Miley Cyrus,” Miley says. “They’re not role models. So for me it was a bad decision, because of my fans and because of what I stand for.”

Right around the time the video leaked, photos appeared in tabloids of Miley “making out” with Nickelodeon star Avan Jogia. Miley denies the allegations: “If you look at the picture, I’m turned away, and he’s kissing me on the cheek. It’s very hilarious to me that people say, ‘They’re making out.’ In making out, there’s a tongue.”

What do you think, Zap2it readers? Does Miley owe America apology for smoking?
